Geological - paleonthological collection
The geological-paleontological collection is the fundamental collection of the Natural Sciences Department of the Brod Posavlje Museum. It comprises various fossil materials as well as samples of sedimentary rocks originating from the area of the Brod Posavlje, from other parts of Croatia and from other countries. The most numerous are fossil remains of molluscs (shellfish and snails) from the Neogene period (the Pannonian Sea). The collection also holds fossil remains of corals, leaf imprints, fish imprints, fossil urchins and others. The Pliocene period is represented by a few hundred of freshwater snails and shellfish while the Quaternary period is represented by around 80 specimens of fossil remains of Quaternary mammals. The most significant item in the collection is the valuable specimen of a steppe mammoth.
